EDIT:
Goal adjusted to £5000. B is really grateful for all the donations so far and has had access to clothes and laser hair removal, which has been life-changing. She has been given the opportunity to spend time in a rehab facility upon her release from prison. Probation have secured £3000 of the cost of this but she is required to cover the rest of the £2000 expense.
We are fundraising and resource-raising for B, a member of our community who is in prison. She is incarcerated in a men’s prison and is isolated from other prisoners ‘for her own safety', which is highly distressing, and she is struggling with gender dysphoria and mental ill health. Effectively, she is being punished for her gender expression while already in prison.
B has put together a list of things she’d like to raise money for. This includes:
- £150 for cosmetics
- £70 for toiletries
- £200 for clothing
- £50 for shoes
- £50 for underwear
- £100 for prosthetics
- £1,430 for laser hair removal*
- £20 for phone credit
- £50 for a wig**
= £2120
We’re rounding this total up to £2500 and asking you to donate if you can! These things will improve B’s quality of life inside and once she’s out, and she would be grateful for anything you can support her with.
We can also give her donations of clothing, cosmetics and magazines*** provided we can arrange this in advance, and she can put in an application to receive them. Please email us at transmutualaidmanchester "@" gmail.com if you could donate any of these things!
Wigs
We're really keen on donations of good-quality wigs (blonde preferably) if anyone has any to donate, as B has said she's been pulling her hair out due to stress.
Laser Hair Removal
The prison has agreed to let B have escorted trips out to complete laser hair removal sessions that had already been started; it's important we fundraise for this specifically because these trips out will do a lot to break up the monotony of being isolated inside.
Magazines
Specifically, B has asked for copies or a subscription to Trans Living Magazine and any women's magazines or fashion magazines.
Who we are:
Trans Mutual Aid Manchester are a grassroots mutual aid group of and for Trans people in Greater Manchester. B got in touch with us via the collective Books Beyond Bars, asking for support while she is in prison.
How your donations will get to B:
Any donations to this gofundme will be withdrawn at regular intervals to the account of one of our organisers. Then the money will be sent to B via the gov.uk ‘Send money to someone in prison’ portal, which she can then spend on the things outlined above.
