One of the 30 poorest countries in the world

Over 360,000 orphans in a nation of 2.233 million people

40% of children suffer from malnutrition and its devastating health effects

These figures cannot do enough to describe the devastating conditions that presently impact the nation of Lesotho. Located within the heart of South Africa, Lesotho is a sovereign country that suffers from the lasting impacts of Apartheid. Having an unforgiving, mountainous landscape, it is unable to sustain any agricultural attempts.

My name is Rachael Fink and I am a Junior at Wittenberg University.
I, along with many other students at Wittenberg University, am on a mission to make a difference in the lives of those who go hungry and live without shelter in the nation of Lesotho. In an effort to alleviate the suffering of this nation, a faculty member and Wittenberg Students formed LNI: The Lesotho Nutrition Initiative. A registered non-profit organization, LNI packs and sends nutritious meals to children in Lesotho between the ages of 0-5 in order to prevent and reverse the effects of chronic stunting and severe malnutrition. It is an organization that I, as a member, can truly feel confident in and attest to the difference that it has made. I must admit, however, that this is not enough.

Malnutrition is not the only problem afflicting the nation of Lesotho. Housing is scarce and hard to come by for the over 360,000 orphans in a nation of just over 2 million people. Providing shelter for parentless children is not something that can be done an ocean away. Myself, along with several other Wittenberg students, will be making a month-long trip to Lesotho (June 6- July 4, 2019) to build orphan-headed households, paint schools, and to interact with the wonderful people and children of Lesotho. It is for this reason that I turn to you, the GoFundMe community, to help fund this cause so that we can travel to a nation that is in dire need of assistance.

I am asking for $2,200, the cost to fund my trip to Lesotho. This sum of money cannot be quantified by what it can buy;  the real value of this money lies in the opportunity to assist those in need.

I thank you for taking the time to view my project page. Please consider donating, but if that is not possible, then simply take the time to learn more about the nation of Lesotho and how you could potentially make a difference.
