TRANS•FORM: The K.D. Care Fund

Asking for help isn’t easy—especially when what you need help with lives so deep beneath the surface.
As a woman of trans experience, I’ve spent years uncovering myself. Peeling away the layers of a life I never chose. Taking off a costume I could never make fit. And slowly, through grace and grit, I’ve started to see someone real staring back at me.
The photos don’t feel like cardboard anymore.
My voice, my gestures, the way I move through the world—they don’t seem so forced anymore, and I can finally feel myself in the way I live day to day.
After decades of blundering through life half-seeing, I am finally beginning to see. And be seen.

But alignment comes at a cost. And the next step in my journey—one that would bring me the deepest relief I’ve ever known—comes with a price tag over $30,000. It’s not covered by insurance. It’s not something I can wait five or ten years to afford. It’s something I need now.

Because here’s the truth: this isn’t about vanity. It’s not even just about gender.
It’s about breath.
The kind you don’t realize you’ve been missing until the moment it fills your lungs.
You can still move when you can’t breathe. You can smile, work, laugh, and help others. But inside, it’s like living with the wind perpetually knocked out of you. Every step is a silent gasp. Every day is a quiet fight for air.

That’s what this kind of gender-affirming care means to me. It’s the moment the surface breaks. The moment I finally breathe.
I’ve been working endlessly—driving Lyft, selling personal items, taking side jobs—trying to cover every piece of this journey on my own. And I’ve been blessed to make it this far. I know many others haven’t had that chance. I carry that awareness with me every step.

But this time, I can’t do it alone. And I need help!

That’s why I’ve created the K.D. Care Fund—to raise what I can’t carry by myself. To reach the next step, the final step in this part of my life’s journey, with the support of a community that believes in trans joy, in trans survival, and in the power of collective care.
