In June 2025, myself and 11 other student nurses will be travelling to Cambodia to work with Transform Healthcare Cambodia.
During the trip, we will be working in Battambang Provincial Hospital and Roka Referral Hospital, as well as local villages and schools. We will carry out hands on work in the hospitals/community as well as clinical education to support our Khmer colleagues in improving healthcare in Cambodia.
Donations from this page will be used towards making this trip possible, with any extra money being given to the charity.
The Khmer Rouge regime which ended in 1979 was one of the worst mass killings of the 20th century, claiming the lives of over 2 million Cambodian people and taking the country back to ‘year zero’. Hundreds of thousands of educated people were tortured and executed and anyone thought to be an intellectual of any kind was killed. The entire health care and education system was destroyed leaving an estimated 10 doctors to care for around 7 million people.
After the regime the entire medical infrastructure had to be rebuilt, with a heavy reliance on foreign aid and funding. The effect of this is still felt in Cambodia today and the majority of the population still have very limited access to healthcare.
I am extremely grateful to have been selected for this opportunity and I look forward to helping make a difference. All donations are greatly appreciated and are going towards a great cause.
Many thanks in anticipation!
