PAWS FOR THE INNOCENT
PAWS FOR THE INNOCENT was founded to help supply dogs and training for Law Enforcement investigating sexual crimes against children.
I have been a professional dog trainer for over 20 years. While I do train pet dogs needing obedience and behavior modification, much of the twenty+ years have been dedicated to working dogs. I worked year contracts in 2010 and 2017 in Afghanistan and Iraq handling bomb dogs. Much of my time additionally has been spent training dogs and handlers in narcotics/explosive detection and tracking, patrol/apprehension.
Two of the police K9 officers I have coached went on to become investigators in ICAC Units (Internet Crimes against Children) INTERNET CRIMES AGAINST CHILDREN let that sink in for a moment. For most of us what that actually means is incomprehensible. Unthinkable. Unthinkable to the point that not thinking about it is an auto-defense mechanism......but think about it we must. "Evil prevails when good men and women do nothing."
The United States is the largest consumers of Child sex content in the world. I recently went to watch the movie The Sound of Freedom, and like most, felt so much heartache, disgust and helplessness. In spite of all this, this movie inspired me to face these facts and to ask the question; WHAT CAN I DO? Well.....
There are 62 ICAC unit in the United States. Two of these Units are local to me and in need of both a trained dog and training and support for handler. My short term goal is to get a team in these two units up and running as soon as possible. My long term goal is to repeat this perpetually, assuring all 62 units have dogs, training and support.
Dogs are used by investigators to find small hidden thumb drives containing child sex content. This content is created by abusing children and videoing it. Large amounts of this content can be stored on the smallest of thumb drives being easily hidden. The more evidence secured by ICAC investigators in a raid, the stronger a case that can be built against the offender. The stronger the case the longer the prison sentence. The less free time the abuser has to hurt children.
When possible, dogs will be selected from area shelters The pet overpopulation problem is real and often times high drive dogs (ideal for this work) wind up in shelters as they are just too much dog for the casual pet owner. While the actual percent of dogs that qualify among such a population is low, the total numbers are high making this possible. As the project grows and the number of trained dogs increases this may not always be possible. To the animal rescue minded friends in support of this project please understand; Shelter dog or not, no dog will be selected for this project that does not meet the requirements in spades. We will be putting out only dogs capable of performing at a very high level.
Our mission to preserve children's innocence is the project and we will rescue dogs where we can.
The first steps of this project was well underway before we had a name.
"PAWS FOR THE INNOCENT" has been chosen for our name and we will be seeking nonprofit status in the near future.
