Haworth Village Hall – Where Community Happens
We need your help to raise a minimum of £10,000 to keep Haworth Village Hall open for the community. This funding will help cover essential running costs — heating, lights, insurance and rates — and ensure our doors stay open for generations to come.
Our vision
Our vision is simple: we would like
- A hall that is warm, welcoming and buzzing with life for all ages
- A space that reduces isolation and brings residents together
- A place that earns its keep through community involvement, energy and creativity
- A place for residents to meet, learn and have fun
In the past
The hall has been at the heart of Haworth for over 100 years. The site on Butt Lane originally housed two school buildings in the 1890s — one for infants, the other for juniors — and a caretaker lived in a small cottage nearby. The school moved to a new building in 2001, leaving the site available for community use.
In the early Millennium, ambitious plans were made to transform one building into private accommodation and the other into a vibrant community centre. The centre would include a bar, stage, large hall and library, becoming a hub for village life. Sadly, the financial crash halted the project. The building became Bradford Council’s “Haworth Youth and Community Centre”, but limited funding led to neglect.
In recent years
In 2016, a community group attempting to manage the hall resigned, and many groups using it closed or moved elsewhere. Despite this, the hall remained home to the 14th Keighley Scouts, the Haworth Brass Band, and, since May 2020, Space to Inspire CIC.
Today
In September last year, a campaign was launched to save the hall. A packed meeting of residents, councillors and local businesses led to 85 volunteers stepping forward. They now manage leadership, social media, events, community engagement, marketing, maintenance, grounds, fundraising, cleaning, and the proposed bar and café.
Over 100 residents have completed our community survey, showing widespread support for saving the hall and contributing ideas for a vibrant hub for all ages. Local businesses and individuals have also donated resources to make the building safe and useable while we work towards securing major capital funding, including the Keighley Towns Fund.
And now
We urgently need your support to raise a minimum of £10,000 to cover essential running costs and keep the hall open. If donations exceed £10,000, additional funds will go to our events management team to plan seasonal community events, which will be shared on social media once finalised.
Please support us and help make Haworth Village Hall a place where community happens. Your donation, big or small, will make a real difference.
Thank you for helping us keep the heart of Haworth alive.
