Pleasure Chest Employee Fundraiser

Like many other small businesses, the Pleasure Chest had to abruptly close its retail operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic on March 17, 2020. Most of our LA, NY and Chicago staff quickly filed for unemployment, but many have not heard back nor received funds from the EDD as of yet.

Our part-time and full-time retail staff have been hit especially hard by the abrupt shift in income and are desperately trying to piece together funds for basic and emergency needs while trying to maintain sanity and safety in this chaotic climate.



For most, the percentage of benefits from unemployment will not completely cover a lot of their basic and emergency needs: groceries, essential and sanitation supplies, utilities, and any medical expenses even when they are approved. A few coworkers have organized this fundraiser and are reaching out to our community and beyond to help retail staff who are in desperate need of financial support at this time.

Goal & Breakdown of Expenses

Each employee of the LA, NY and CHI staff we are fundraising for has submitted a list of their basic expenses and emergency needs. We’ve totaled these for a fundraising goal of $15k to help cover the past few weeks through the end of April. With roughly 50 employees nationwide, we will try to surpass this goal to offer as much assistance as we can.

Why are WE so special?
Pleasure Chest employees have always put their whole hearts and identities into the content they create at work and beyond. From teaching workshops on self-care, pleasure, sexual health, and yes a good dose of kink , to offering a personalized experience tailored to every customer that comes through the doors, they offer the knowledge and experience to answer the tough questions one would be hard pressed to find on the internet, a description on the side of a box, or anywhere else. 

It’s this type of intimate engagement across all facets of each of our jobs that keeps us connected to our company, our inclusive, sex-positive content, and most of all to our coworkers. And although we have the privilege of working for a diverse, sex positive establishment that not only accepts but appreciates the knowledge of sex workers and the queer community, we are not immune to the effects of capitalism during a crisis. As retail and service industry employees living paycheck to paycheck, we often suffer the hardest.

If you’ve ever attended one of our workshops, or tuned in online for content only Sex Workers and certified Sex Specialists can bring, or appreciated the one on one attention during a store visit, then please consider giving back with a little donation of your own. Although we are not ‘essential employees’, we do believe pleasure and self-care are indeed essential more than ever at this time.
