Gemach ‘Zecher L'Yitchok’ was set up after our son, Yitzchok z"l, died on Erev Rosh Chodesh Av 2019.

As we sat shiva, we had younger children at home who needed entertaining, and someone brought in some toys for the younger ones – who didn’t fully appreciate what was happening around them – to play with.

At the time, it was a small act of chesed that we really appreciated, because those toys did keep the younger ones entertained. And it gave them something to be happy about in all the sadness around them.

After that, we decided to make this act of chesed something that we do in memory of Yitzchok. So, where there is a shiva house with children, we send a package of toys to help the parents, and to help the children feel some joy in a difficult time.

We have funded the gemach from two lottery grants since 2019. Over the past four years we have spent:

£8,000 on toys for children.

Our aim is to raise £4,000 to fund the 'Toys for Kids sitting Shiva' for the next 2 years.
