Hi, my name is Carol and I am from the USA. I quit my job and decided to embark on a self journey in Africa. I have always had the passion to help others and didn’t feel fulfilled with my corporate job. So I decided to combine my passion of helping and traveling. My first destination is Kenya where I have been for 6 weeks already. Truly embracing the culture and traveling with a purpose are critical. While traveling I am doing the following:
- Volunteering at schools
- Living with local families to understand what is like to live in Africa and sharing more about my culture and ways of living with them
- Supporting small local businesses
- Talking to locals to understand different issues within the community
Living in local communities and experiencing so many issues first hand has inspired me to start this project. The goal of this fundraising is to truly touch lives of different families throughout my journey in Kenya. How can your money help:
From Weeks 1-3:
- Since many families can’t afford school fees children can’t attend school. Raising funds can make sure that children go to school for the year. School fee is around $30 USD per year per child!
- Many pastoralist tribes face challenges with the weather. If it’s not a good rain season then their cows, goats, sheep’s die. This is their only source of income so families don’t have money to buy food. Raising funds can supply food for many and many families
From Weeks 4-6
- Schools don’t get much assistance from the government so it lacks school supplies such as books, notebooks, pencils. Raising funds will support schools to provide better resources for the children
- Early pregnancy is a huge problem here in Kenya and as a result most times there is not enough money to buy food and cover basic needs. Raising funds can feed these family and support with medical, clothing, education needs
From Weeks 7-8
- Life is hard in Africa. If parents can’t support their children often times they decide to leave them behind. Children are always found living alone in the homes. If they are lucky someone finds them and are sent to orphanages. Existing orphanages need financial support to continue operating such as covering food and education costs. Or there is also a need to open new orphanages. Raising funds will support existing orphanages and possibly creating more
Everyday I learn about a new issue. There are many more but we can start impacting these lives little by little with the help from everyone who can support this fundraising.
Thank you!
