Never in a million years would I think I would be writing this.
If anyone has met either one of my parents, I am sure we would agree that they are the first ones to lend a hand to anyone. I think we would also agree that they love one another endlessly.
Unfortunately, they have recently been dealt a heavy hand with life. On August 7th, a couple days after celebrating my Dad's birthday he was admitted to the emergency room at Mercy Hospital. He was showing some symptoms that were strange to the people around him, such as having trouble finding words and losing his balance. Scans showed a mass in his brain and after some time in the ICU and a craniotomy it was determined that he had developed a very aggressive brain tumor called a Glioblastoma. The Neurosurgeon was very transparent with us, stating that he attempted to remove as much as he could without causing any more damage. He provided us with a textbook life expectancy, and prepared us for this new journey.
Since the surgery, my dad has been on the Rehabilitation Side of Mercy Hospital gaining his strength on his now weakened right side of his body. He has also been working on his cognitive skills, along with improving his speech. Daily he surprises us with how much stronger he has become.
The anticipated discharge date is September 7th. He will begin chemo and radiation treatment quickly to try and fight this cancer. Family and friends have gotten together to begin working on my parent's home to ensure his safety but we anticipate that there will still be a financial burden ahead.
My mother has not left my dad's side. She fights her own battle with her health, and has selflessly not been home longer then an hour to ensure that she is present for her husband. To say that I am concerned about them both is an understatement.
Any funds that are collected with this platform will be put in a savings account that I have opened. I will let my parents make the decision on how the money will be utilized. I will ensure that it goes towards household expenses, any medical supplies to make mobility easier at their home, or to medical bills. My goal is to have them focus on their health, and not have to worry about much else.
It is important to me that my parents remain comfortable in their home.
I understand that finances are tight for many, so if donating is not an option please consider sharing this page on your social media accounts. My family and I also feel like prayer and positivity can go a long way, so any positive thoughts for us will be appreciated more then anything.
