Toni’s World’s Deepest Marathon Challenge

This October, I’m taking on a challenge unlike anything I’ve done before…The World’s Deepest Marathon. It’s an official world record attempt, held 1,120 metres underground in a zinc mine in Sweden.

Alongside a group, I’ll be running 42.2km through underground tunnels, guided by the light of a head torch, in peaceful silence (yes, no music allowed), and in temperatures of up to 30°C.

It will be physically and mentally demanding, but it’s an experience I feel incredibly lucky to take on.

I grew up sprinting, not running long distances, and definitely not in mines! But over the past year, running has become so much more than a sport for me. It’s a way to push past my limits, find peace, and connect with others in meaningful ways.

Now I’m using this challenge to do something bigger. I will be raising money for two great causes:

BecomingX Foundation: helping young people from disadvantaged backgrounds build confidence, learn essential skills, and access opportunities to unlock their full potential.

The Wild at Heart Foundation: working to end the suffering of stray dogs around the world and give them a second chance at life.
