Tommy’s parents, The Bacon’s
Donation protected
A plea to continue supporting this Perth family.
After Kylie and Dave’s two year old son Tommy was diagnosed with a rare form of leukaemia called JMML, there worlds turned into chaos.
After appealing for donors and having two fall through, the miracle came from there new born Aria. Born in October her umbilical cord provided cells that were a perfect match for Tommy.
After conditioning, strong chemo to kill off all of Tommy’s cells, the transplant took place. Since that day Tommy has had a feeding tube inserted and has been on a cocktail of medication. He has had good days and bad days but all has been looking good. Everything was going in the right direction and talk of early discharge had everyone excited. As we all know things don’t always run smoothly and unfortunately Tommy took a turn for the worse and is now being treated for some infections that have set him back, and being post transplant this can have terrible implications for prolonged recovery. Obviously this is putting more stress on the family and this is where we can all continue to help and support. Without being able to work there is the added financial pressure. Tommy is in hospital in isolation with a small bubble allowed in to care for him. Mum and Dad take shifts to cover each day and night while juggling a baby. Family have flown in to support but ultimately Kylie and Dave are torn between their children too.
Please can I ask that we don’t forget them.
Any donation no matter how small will all help and it all adds up. This is not a quick fix and there is now no talk of when Tommy may be discharged.
thank you so much to all that have donated, you are amazing.
Also thank you for reading, please share far and wide.
