Tokalynga needs your help

Donation protected
Teater Albatross has worked at Tokalynga for over 30 years, bringing international artists and theatre companies together for inspiring life-changing festivals. It is a place that has given so much to so many and now they are in desperate need of your help to survive another 30 years. They need to raise funding for urgent repairs to the house, to continue their work for the world.

It all started when Robert Jakobsson found a huge old school in the Swedish countryside by the river Ätran. He wanted to work with theatre outside of the city, bringing culture to more unusual places. When he and his friends found Tokalynga, they were able to realise their dreams. This big old house was not especially beautiful on the outside, but inside there was all the space they needed to create magic. Over the years, many people from many places have come here to learn, share, produce, heal, recover, live and die. Connections have been made all over the world, especially with Russia, Belarus, Poland and even Congo and Cameroon, where many people think Tokalynga is the capital of Sweden! They work regularly in schools, with refugees, and with environmental issues such as over-fishing and the state of the oceans.

Now this wonderful old building is itself in need of help. After many years of dedicated service, the plumbing pipes need extensive restoration. The local town council says if Teater Albatross do not fix this before mid-May 2020, they will close down the building. A local company has offered to make the reparations and has given a cost of 202 866 SEK – a little less than 20 000 Euros. Half of this Albatross will pay themselves or, if they are lucky, try to raise through grants and funding, but the other half they need help with.

We hope to raise over 100 000 SEK (around 10 000 Euros) and we believe in magic and miracles. Please give whatever you can, however small or large. Maybe you have visited Tokalynga and enjoyed wonderful food, love, friendship, healing, inspiration? Now is your opportunity to give back. No sum is too small.  Please help and please share.

If you believe in the importance of keeping free theatre alive, keeping the countryside vibrant, and fostering spaces to bring together people from many different countries to share something bigger – then please help Teater Albatross to keep Tokalynga alive. This place has always been big on love and often short on cash, but together we know we can find a way to raise the necessary funding to keep going for many more wonderful years.

When we raise the money and replace the pipes, we will make a communal art piece to celebrate the rejuvenation and resurrection of Tokalynga. Everyone who has made a donation gift will somehow be symbolically included in this art piece and images of it will be shared and posted to tell the story of how it came to be.

In 2020 and 2021, there will also be days where they perform their play about the Russian revolution "1917 - When the Clocks Stopped" and their new play about the forest, and all who have donated gifts are welcome to contact us to get information on watching the shows. You are always welcome to visit Tokalynga or get in touch with them at any time if you would like to experience the place or become involved in some way.

Thank you for sharing what you can and for giving thanks with love.
