We are a couple of local mums and our sons go to daycare with Hayden in Menai. Hayden is our sons' bestie and we would like to raise money to support Hayden, his parents and his siblings during this very challenging time.

Hayden has been in ICU for nearly 4 weeks. He has originally contracted a common virus which immediately has attacked his brain and spine and he's not able to walk, talk or breathe on his own. He has had a tracheostomy put on and he's slowly getting moved to a wheelchair so he can pursue his rehab program.

While Hayden is a fighter, this reaction to such a commun virus is very rare and the road ahead will be very long and unpredictable. He might not be able to go home for another 3 months and will have a ventilator on the long term. Beyond the immediate medical bills, his mum has had to step away from work to be at the hospital full-time. The 'hidden' costs of a medical crisis—parking, meals on the go, daily travels back and forth to the hospital etc—are mounting quickly.

We want to ensure that Kristen and Matt can focus entirely on Hayden's recovery without the crushing weight of financial stress.
