In March of 2025, my family noticed the first worrying signs Esme was unwell she was unusually tired, bruising easily, and often unwell. At first, we hoped it was something minor. But after countless hospital visits and tests, they received the devastating news: Esme has stage 3 leukemia.

so today I want to share the story of a brave little girl Esme. who is fighting the hardest battle of her young life — the battle against leukemia. At just 7 years old she should be at school, laughing with friends, and enjoying her childhood. Instead, her days are spent in hospital rooms, undergoing treatment of chemotherapy that no child should ever have to endure.

By her side every step of the way is her loving mum, my sister Pricilla. She has given up work, not because she wanted to, but because her daughter my niece needs her 24 hours a day. She is her strength, her comfort, and her constant source of love in a time of unimaginable fear. But with no income, the family is now struggling to cover even the most basic needs — rent, bills, travel costs to and from hospital.

This is where we, as a community, can step in. No parent should have to choose between caring for their sick child and battling the rising costs of living. No child should feel the added weight of financial stress while they are fighting for their life.
