The goal of this campaign? Keep me off Facebook.
You might have noticed I'm on Facebook a lot. Posting memes and musings are great for passing time. I would much rather be serving on boards, consulting, advising, connecting and creating new possibilities for West Contra Costa or broader horizons. Or maybe take a trip somewhere just for fun. Maybe I'll start a bucket list and try to cross some off before the eventual happens.
As you know, I like to give to people and be helpful. I've given many of you time, advice, strategies, insights, or a just a welcoming ear. I share what I have or know freely without pay or expectation. This disability gives me the time and resources to support others. My family and friends empower me by doing things I can't for myself. I recognize how lucky I am. Donating my strengths is how I pay forward and repay their love.
The trustee job took a tremendous toll on my health. It accelerated my pre-existing spinal muscular atrophy. I lost significant function over the past 7 years and need increased assistance to compensate. I'm lost use of my arms, termed quadriparesis, so everything now requires the assistance of others.
During my board service, the district provided invaluable resources to hire assistants . This gave me tremendous opportunity to connect with great people around the country and introduce them to WCCUSD. Some of these partnerships still flourish. Finding new ideas on our challenges is my thrill in life. Having sufficient resources to live my passions was the best part of my term.
Your contribution will give me flexibility to keep being Todd. Expect me to show up in weird places and connect interesting thinkers. Expect me to continue tackling big problems and charting new solutions. Expect that I may actually do something fun! ikr? So weird to think that way.
Financially, I would like restore some of our savings. Without the board stipend, I burned through them and put critical wear on my van, which now needs replacing.
If this goal is met, I will replace my van and be able to pay people to drive and take care of me. Maybe I'll road trip to you. You never know.
Wherever I go, I won't be sitting on the sidelines. I'll be engaged and helping people where I can. The don't call me Volunteer of the Year for nothing.
I know you all will miss the posts ...um... or maybe this is the best way to reclaim your Facebook feed. Either way, I will be grateful for your support and promise to live well with any funds this generates.
