February 2026 Update - A Community Hub: More than just a pub

The Six Bells is not just about reopening a pub, it’s about creating a sustainable, community-owned hub at the heart of Peterstone Wentlooge and the wider Community.

We are now in the active fundraising phase to raise the full £440,000 needed to bring the building into community ownership and momentum is building.

Who are we

We are a group of volunteers from Peterstone Wentlooge and the surrounding areas across Newport and Cardiff, united by a shared vision to bring the historic Six Bells Pub into community ownership and transform it into a vibrant sustainable hub for rural regeneration

Our Vision

The Six Bells Community Hub will be:

• A welcoming pub serving locally sourced food and drink

• A café stop for walkers and cyclists travelling between Cardiff and Newport

• A meeting space for local groups and community activities

A venue for events, workshops and social gatherings - with a focus on education, mental health and wellbeing

A farm and craft for local food producers and artisans

An information point celebrating the unique environment and heritage of the Gwent Levels

Our model blends hospitality income with community use, creating a financially sustainable space that reduces rural isolation, supports local enterprise and strengthens community life.

We are actively applying to funding programmes that support community ownership and rural regeneration.

We are exploring responsible loan options to complete the funding package if needed.
