To help a family during this difficult time

Four weeks ago, the conversation with Heidi (a Disability Support Worker in the area) turned into a nightmare. She was explaining why she could not meet up with myself and another ex work colleague. She said,…”I cannot attend as Darren (her hubby) has two fractured eye sockets, a fractured forehead, broken collar bone, several bleeds on the brain and a blood clot.” Basically he fell from a scaffold landing on the back of his head.

I’m like, “Whaaaaaaat? This is serious? I’m coming to see you now!!”

Upon seeing him, it was not good, he had swelling on the brain, black eyes, blood and clots coming out of his ears and a skull that had fractured in 3 places. His future did not look good!

Who Darren is:

Her hubby is a very kind trendy ‘YES MAN’, who always wants to help people and will not stop helping them until everything is fixed. Last year my sons room flooded and he kindly rebuilt it on the weekends when he should have been relaxing with his family.

Who Heidi is:

A support worker who is passionate about helping people with disabilities. The last month has meant she has not been able to work due to being by her husbands side in a Brisbane Based hospital.

Together Darren and Heidi are the craziest, funniest couple who are always pranking each other or having fun with their four boys. They always had my back if something happened! 

Before the injury, they were active with their four boys, just like any other family would be. Now life for Darren and his family has changed overnight. Due to this traumatic Brian injury, Darren’s life has changed significantly. At present He cannot drive, go to work or be left alone.  His freedom has been taken away.

This will be a long road to recovery as Darren undergoes intense Rehab at the Robina hospital .

However all I can think about is their expenses as they have now gone from two incomes, to no incomes in one month! I decided to set up a Gofundme account to help them cover the cost of bills

 etc. As a family of six, it will be extremely hard to survive without two incomes. If any of you can spare five or more dollars for these amazing humans, they will be extremely grateful.
