Making Memories for My Uncle Adrian O’Connor
Hi, my name is Alan, and as you know, my Uncle is Adrian (Alfie)
O’Connor.
In January, my Uncle underwent a routine MRI due to ongoing migraines. During this scan, we received the devastating news that a brain tumour had been discovered. Initially, we were referred to Cork Hospital with hope that we had caught it early and that surgery could fully remove it. However, after further evaluation, we were redirected to Beaumont Hospital, where the surgery would take place.
In early April, we travelled to Beaumont, holding onto the possibility that part of the tumour could be removed and that the rest could be treated with radiation and chemotherapy. Unfortunately, during surgery, it was confirmed to be a vascular tumour, meaning it was inoperable. A biopsy was taken, and shortly after, we received the heartbreaking news that the tumour had aggressively progressed to stage 4 glioblastoma, leaving surgery no longer an option.
Now, we are awaiting radiation and chemotherapy—not as a cure, but as a way to prolong his life. Through all of this, my uncle has remained hopeful and determined to make the most of the time he has left. One of his lifelong dreams has been to watch Liverpool play live and tour the stadium—he has never missed a match. Sadly, he is unable to fly, but we are determined to fulfil this wish and make his final memories as meaningful as possible. If we can make this happen, it will be a long boat journey, but one is filled with excitement and purpose.
We are cherishing every single day, making memories, and ensuring my uncle lives the last part of his life to the fullest.
love from all the o Connor family and his daughter and wife.
