The Committee is comprised of SJM parishioners, some of whom were involved in the year long process to collaboratively merge three parishes - St. Gabriel, St. James Major & Transfiguration.
At the end of the process, the 3 parishes' joint laity’s choice - St. James Major - was overruled. Now the three parishes have merged into St. Martin de Porres. The Committee supports the merger but believes SJM should be the site of the new parish.
Other parishes in the country have been able to challenge their archbishop’s order to close - through use of a cannon lawyer. To that end, the Committee has hired one such successful canon lawyer. We continue to seek financial support to proceed with our appeal.
