Thank you for taking the time to read this!
First of all, I want to express how privileged I feel to have this opportunity. I have traveled overseas several times before having children, but since, have been perfectly happy being at home in Waco with my babies! Over the last few years, I have pondered the idea of taking our boys to Restoration Gateway in Uganda. I long to expand their world view, to give them opportunities to see that true love and true life exists beyond the four walls of their church, school, home, and yes, even their television and computer screens! I want them to know how truly rich they are, and not because of anything that can be bought with money, but because of God's love and life within them.
The founders of RG, Tim and Janice McCall, used to go to our church in Waco. We have watched them from this side of the ocean build this ministry from the bottom up. RG houses, educates, and strives to meet the needs of hundreds of children orphaned due to recent tragic and historical events in Uganda, as well as providing employment for numerous Ugandans otherwise unemployed. (Please watch the video for more information).
After a brief, unplanned meeting and conversation recently with one of the stateside RG employees, I decided to pursue this crazy idea. One thing led to another, and here we are planning a trip to Uganda! After ironing out a lot of details, I will be taking David and William; Simon and Van will be staying at home with the help of a family friend during that time. Unfortunately, big David will not be able to join us due to a previously planned overseas trip as well. He's going to miss us for sure, and also a little nervous I'm going to come home with extra children!
Would you consider joining us by contributing financially toward our efforts to invest in these children, support the house mothers that care for them, and help this growing and thriving ministry in any practical way possible?
Most of the funds we need will be used for airfare. We will use a small portion for living expenses while we are there. We have already received an overwhelming amount of encouragement. Now we just need a lot of $$$$!!!
Our trip is tentatively scheduled for the first 2 weeks of August. Assuming air fares will increase as time passes, we would like to have the majority of our funds raised by June.
If you would like to contribute, you may do so directly through mail or personally. Otherwise feel free to give through this gofundme account--it was our simplest option! Unfortunately, we are not able to offer any tax incentives.
Thank you all so much for your support!! I would love to show our appreciation for your financial support by providing a homemade baked good (Waco residents)--check out our reward levels!
With much gratitude,
Simone and David Harris, Sr.
