Almost two weeks ago, my Aunt Lori (read that as best friend, sister-at-heart) was in a terrible accident with her granddaughter. Her car was totaled when she was hit on the driver’s side. Both front and rear doors had to be cut away from the vehicle.

Her granddaughter escaped with a bump and scratch on her head. Lori was not as lucky.

Lori has multiple pelvis fractures, a fractured rib, lower back fractures and lacerations to her bladder and kidney. She had to have surgery on her bladder.

She spent almost two weeks in the hospital. She is finally home, but that too isn’t without complications.

She will be out of work for at least the rest of the year. And no one knows yet what her medical bills will look like. She has no health insurance, and according to what I read, car insurance in North Carolina only covers medical costs when you purchase an add-on (Seriously??).

At the very least, she has nine months of everyday costs to cover, in addition to the multiple medications and medical equipment that needs to be purchased.
