My friend Tina Gunn - she saves people. Whenever anyone has a need, she works quietly behind the scenes to solve the problem. When my husband had cancer and we had to shut down our business for6 months, Tina started a fun raiser or Keith. We would have lost our house without her help. A friend totaled her car and couldnt afford to replace it. Tina found a way to raise the money for her friend to get another car. I know of times she has organized meals to be brought in for families experiencing traumatic medical issues, not just for a day or two but for as many weeks as it takes. These are just a few of the thing I know about. When other people are saying "if you need anything call me" Tina just figures out what needs doing and gets it done. The thing about Tina is she never asks for the spotlight to be shined on her. She doesnt expect a pat on the back. So unless you've been the beneficary of her generous spirit, you would never know how giving she is.
So now Tina wants something desperately and true to her nature its not even for herself. She feels called to travel to Haiti to work in an orphanage teaching the caregivers how to help children effected by trauma. As many of you know Tina used to be a photographer but now she is a therapist in Omaha, NE. She will share her knowledge to make a better life for these children at Hope Street Orphanage. Tina will be traveling with a group from Journey Church in Gretna, NE
In her own words these are some of the things she will teach the orphanage staff how to do.
How the trauma brain is plastic and with the right treatment can start to heal it self.
Teach children to self regulate,
Have less nighmares
Hopefully less bedwetting. Many still wet or other in the bed.
Why children lie.
Because Tina has had major medical issues of her own over the last few years, her family does not have the extra funds to send her on this missionary trip. This moeny will be used for her travel and expenses
It's pretty typical of Tina that even when she wants something for herself, its not really for her. And I had to really work to convince her to let me set up this fund raiser. She just never asks for anything for herself. It's always to help others. Remember that saying "Give a man a fish you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." Tina will NOT be going just to work with these troubled children for a week and then leave them. She is going to train their caretakers who will then be able to help these children for a long, long time. Who knows how wide the ripples will spread from her work there.
$2500 really isn't much money when its shared among Tina's many many friends. It won't take much from any single person to make this happen. So please think about contributing whatever you can. It will mean so much to Tina. It will mean a chance at a better life for these children. And personally if i can spearhead this fund drive and make this happen - well I get a chance to help my friend who saved us when we were at our lowest.
Thank you
