Hi, if you don’t already know me, my name is TJ Jenkins, Tommy Jenkin’s son.

Hurricane Ian (5mph short of a cat 5 hurricane) has recently devastated our community,

Tom’s home included.

His condo was flooded in the storm and, as a result, we have had to get rid of

everything. Unfortunately, this is not a first for Tom. Some of you may remember he

went through Katrina while living in Louisiana and lost everything he had at the time,

and now it's happened again. He pays for insurance through his condo association, they

came out to inspect the building and told us that they will not cover anything INSIDE the

condo, the flood insurance he has is only good for the outside. This is the worst news

we could have expected and the entire home has already been gutted due to the heat

and humidity in SWFL causing mold to grow very quickly.

We still need to rip out all the lower cabinets from the kitchen and bathrooms and get

them rebuilt as well as replace the drywall that has already been cut out. He needs a

special mattress for his back that we had to get rid of and he lost the electric scooter

that he uses to get around. With no money coming in we are at a loss for how we can

go about replacing an entire home worth of furniture as well as all the large appliances

(fridge, dishwasher, stove, washer, dryer). We were able to bring all the furniture to the

curb and do the demo work ourselves but we will need to pay a skilled worker to come

in and replace what has been ripped out including the carpeting from 3 rooms. We have contacted FEMA, they will allow us to take out a small business loan and have given $700 for food gas or water but we are unable to use those funds for home repairs or furniture replacement. As nice as it is to see some relief efforts being made for storm victims, it’s not exactly what we need at this time. Tom is currently living with me and will stay with me until his home is livable again. If you can spare some cash to help him out we would be so thankful.

We’ve been working relentlessly on both Tom’s home and my own which I share with

my wife Michelle since the storm, and we are all working on very little sleep with no

power or water yet. I will update this with some pictures later as well. I’ve never done

one of these before and I never thought I would have to, but I hope I’m doing this right. I put $10,000 as a goal because I have no idea what to put there or what everything will cost us. We are not expecting to receive anything close to that, but at this point,

anything will help.
