For the past three years, growing my hair has been part of a much deeper personal journey - one of transformation, purpose and learning what it truly means to serve something greater than myself.

During that time, I launched Men’s Sheds Lethbridge & Coaldale and have had the privilege of working alongside an incredible group of men who continually give their time, skills and energy to help others. Whether they’re supporting one another, sharing their knowledge or stepping up for members of our community, these men represent the very best of what Men’s Sheds stands for.

Now, it’s my turn to put my head (and hair) on the chopping block. At the end of August, I’ll be cutting off the locks. The hair will be donated, and the haircut will also serve as a fundraiser in support of Men’s Sheds and men’s health initiatives in our community.

A portion of the funds raised will help us provide at-home stool screening kits that may help men recognize possible warning signs of bowel cancer and other health concerns that should be discussed with a healthcare professional. These kits will be made available free of charge for members of Men’s Sheds and others in our community to pick up discreetly from our location.

Men’s health is deeply important to me. Like many families, mine has a history of genetic health concerns, and I know how easy it can be for men to postpone appointments, ignore symptoms or avoid conversations about their health altogether. Early awareness can make a meaningful difference, and sometimes the first step is simply making the right resources easier to access.

Additional funds raised will help Men’s Sheds continue providing programs, tools, resources and opportunities that bring men together, reduce isolation, support health and wellness, and allow our members to keep serving the wider community.

Every contribution - large or small - will help us make a difference.

And, after three very patient years, my daughters are more than ready to finally say goodbye to the long locks.
