Three generations of mothers buried 'Skippa'
My name is Joie Rasberry and I am creating this fundraiser to help start an organization for my niece (Kalandra Rasberry-Taylor), sister (Jolanda Rasberry) and mother (Annie Rasberry) who recently buried their son, grandson and great-grandson. My 18-year-old great nephew, Leonard Prince III -aka- 'Skippa' was brutally murdered in Houston, TX on November 29, 2022. As of today, no one has been charged with his murder.
Grief must be channeled somewhere, if not, loved ones die on the inside too. Less than a month after Skippa's death, his great-grandmother, who he was close to suffered a mild stroke. This is when they knew something had to be done to turn their grief into public service. The idea of an organization to help grieving families, a scholarship fund to assist young Black men in going to college, entering a vocational program or joining the military, along with programs involving teaching life-changing applications that will inspire self-belief, set the framework for resisting destructive behavior, goal setting, transcending negative behavior and tapping into one's own greatness was birthed.
Skippa was someone's son, grandson and great-grandson. So was Michael Brown (18), Freddy Gray (25) Eric Garner (43), Philando Castlile (32), Daunte Wright (20), George Floyd (46), Stephen Clark (22), and Botham Jean (26).
It's time out for seeing who can have the best funeral. Sadly, we are continually burying far too many young Black men, which is why we are asking for your help in turning the tide.
