Tell Our Story: Help Us Restore the Heart of the Three Counties

At the peaceful crossroads where Cork, Kerry, and Limerick meet, there’s a little place with a big story.

The Three Counties Boundary is more than a dot on the map—it’s a symbol of community, connection, and rural pride. At its heart stands Striolán Bridge, built in 1958, replacing a time when locals crossed the river on horseback to get to Kerry. For generations, this spot has been a quiet witness to everyday life, family ties, and local history.

In the late 1990s, the Curtin families of Striolán, along with neighbours and friends, came together with a shared dream: to transform this junction into something beautiful. They cleared the land, cleaned up rubbish, and built a stunning thatched gazebo. What once was overgrown became a beloved local landmark—complete with music, dancing, and joy when it officially opened in September 2000.

For over two decades, the Curtins have lovingly maintained the site. But now, time and weather have taken their toll. The bridge needs painting, the gazebo needs re-thatching, and the fencing needs repair.

That’s where you come in.

With just a little help, we can bring the Three Counties Boundary back to life. We’re not just restoring a place—we’re reviving a shared history, a symbol of unity, and a source of pride for our local communities.

Community groups—The Rockchapel Heritage Group, Brosna Le Chéile, and the Mountcollins Development Association—have joined forces to raise funds for the restoration of the Three Counties Boundary. But we can’t do it alone—we need your support to help bring this special place back to life

Bringing this project to life will require funding, with an estimated cost of approximately €25,000.

Project Plan
Due to the fragmented nature of grant availability, we’re taking a phased approach to ensure steady progress:

Phase 1 – Reinstate fencing (Autumn 2025)
Phase 2 – Clean and repaint the bridge (Autumn 2025)
Phase 3 – Rethatch the gazebo (2026)

We are counting on you to help us reach this target of €25,000 by donating as generously as possible and by encouraging your friends /networks to do same. We appreciate any donation from home, from our diaspora abroad and from everyone no matter how big or small.

Every donation, big or small, helps us:

Re-thatch the gazebo

Paint and refresh the Striolán Bridge

Replace and repair fencing

Clean and restore the grounds

This is more than a fundraiser—it’s a community call to action. Let’s preserve a place that connects counties, families, and hearts.

Please donate, share, and be part of this story. Let’s make it happen—together.

Many thanks from The Rockchapel Heritage Group, Brosna Le Chéile, and the Mountcollins Development Association
