Hidden in the green hills of Cáqueza, Colombia, a small group of volunteers is quietly transforming lives through love, creativity, and reuse.
This is Trapitos Con Amor — “Little Rags with Love” — a community foundation that has helped more than 500 families since 2017, including teen mothers, migrants, people with disabilities, and victims of Colombia’s armed conflict.
We collect donated clothing and materials, wash and restore them, and give them to families who need them most.
But what started as a small act of kindness has become a powerful environmental, social, and cultural project:
• Environmental: We reuse clothing and household goods, reducing waste and teaching environmental responsibility. Combined with the monthly food bank distributions, we are focused on helping save our precious planet.
• Socio-economic: We help families save money, regain dignity, and build stronger community ties.
• Cultural exchange: We host international volunteers who teach English, share skills, and build bridges between Colombia and the world.
All of this happens without any external funding. Everything — from rent to cleaning supplies to transport for donation drives — is paid out of our own pockets.
Now, with your help, we want to expand our reach and share our story.
Funds raised here will go toward:
• Community Projects such as water purification, a small bus to transport donations and take local children on field trips.
• Rent, utilities, and transport to keep the foundation running
• Basic materials (soap, disinfectant, shoe glue, etc.) for donation drives and community workshops
• Volunteer support and English classes for local families
• Support paying the various regional taxes and certifications to be able to receive for government support.
Every dollar makes a real difference in the daily lives of rural families who are creating change with almost nothing but their hands and hearts.
Together, we can help Trapitos Con Amor grow — so their message of love, recycling, and solidarity can reach far beyond Cáqueza.
“We can’t help everyone, but we can all help someone.”
From Cáqueza, with love.
