Hi,

My Name is Douglas Bell and I am raising funds for my Brother - David Alexander Bell - to help rebuild a roof for one of the members of his team that work for his small business in Savanna-La-Mar.

Some background on my brother - He is the proud owner of a small Purfied Drinking water business called “Savanna Pure Water” in Savanna La Mar, westmoreland, Jamaica. He employs 3 members of the community and provides an essential service/product.

Hurricane Melissa which hit Jamaica's shores on October 28th as a Category 5 storm, tore through the western and southern parishes, levelling homes, submerging roads, and crippling power grids. The devastation has been described as the most severe disruption to schooling since Hurricane Gilbert in 1988. The devastation is heartbreaking!

Thankfully his store had a slab roof and the structure is still in tack with some minor window damages that can be easily repaired (Photo attached was taken on opening day). The business should also be able to reopen in the coming weeks operating on backup generator and trucking water as the main National water commission lines will likely be down for weeks to Months!

However the Store Supervisor, Assaney James, has not been spared. He lives in a house with his Aunt and Grandmother and the roof completely flew off during the storm. All of the contents of his house have been completely destroyed, soaked from the rains and now has tarpaulins pulled over to provide some shelter from the elements.

The entire community at large has also been displaced and he explained that “everyone on his land also lost their roofs”

Assaney has been offered for him and his family to stay at the store until they get a roof and his response was that the Aunt and Grandmother are unwilling to leave, in fear of persons coming and looting what little they have salvaged and what relief such as food and clean clothes that they currently are holding onto.

With all that said, my Goal is to raise some funds to help replace their roof and if possible, provide that same support to the neighbours in the community who have also been severely displaced.

Estimated Cost: $7,500-$10,000 CAD

Supplies Needed:

Every bit counts and time is of the essence!

I will ensure to provide pictures and videos of the relief efforts. In addition, when we hopefully reopen for business to provide the much needed drinking water to the community!

I look forward to everyone support as we work to rebuild our beloved country, Jamaica Land we Love!

One Love,

David Alexander Bell
