As you might know, I have been volunteering and running with a non-profit called Back on My Feet for the past 2 years. I’m very excited to announce that I will be fundracing with Back on My Feet at the 2020 Boston Marathon! You might be asking yourselves:
“So what is Back on My Feet exactly?”
Back on My Feet combats homelessness through the power of running, community support and essential employment and housing resources. As a team leader in NYC, I wake up at 5am once a week to run with other volunteers and Back on My Feet members who are experiencing homelessness and currently residing at The Bowery Mission. If members maintain 90% attendance at morning runs, they get access to job training, workshops and other services provided by Back on My Feet.
“Wait… so you make homeless people run?”
Back on My Feet is so much more than your typical running group. Together we are a true team, comprised of walkers and runners alike all wearing the same running gear. I have witnessed first hand some members building the confidence to go from barely jogging a mile to running marathons, and from staying at a shelter to finding a job and moving in their own apartment. Don’t take my word for it - check out this 1min video of Kevin who started running with my team last year!
“Ok… but what do you need from me?”
With giving Tuesday approaching, I am asking for you to consider donating HERE to this incredible organization and support my fundraising efforts as I prepare to take on the Boston Marathon. While any donation helps, here’s an idea of what your donation can provide:
- $30 could provide a member with spring running gear
- $50 could provide a member with winter running gear
- $250 could provide a member race fees, incentives to reach certain mileage milestones
- $500 could provide a member with education and job assistance
- $1,000 could provide a member with housing for a whole year
Thank you and together we can #OutraceHomelessness
