Thistle House Care Farm - Non for Profit
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Keri McCallum, and together with my partner Ken Humphrey, we are excited to introduce our Non-Profit Care Farm. Situated on nearly 4 acres, our farm is designed with raised garden beds, pathways, shelters, and various activities to support Care Farm Day Programs.
Our primary focus is to provide a nurturing environment for seniors in the early stages of dementia. We aim to offer them a safe, nature-based space where they can engage in activities they love, such as gardening and light farming tasks. These activities provide sensory stimulation, fresh air, exercise, and opportunities for social interaction. Many seniors diagnosed with dementia are often told they can no longer go outside due to safety concerns. Our day programs will offer the necessary support structure to allow them to enjoy the outdoors once again, with the assistance of our dedicated Personal Support Workers (PSWs).
Additionally, we plan to offer day programs for youth facing mental health challenges. These programs will provide non-traditional support through green care activities. By working with plants, animals, and engaging in fun, educational activities, youth will experience the healing properties of nature. They will learn to nurture and grow from seed to harvest, gaining a sense of accomplishment and success along the way.
We believe in the transformative power of nature and community, and we are committed to making a positive impact on the lives of seniors and youth. Your support will help us bring this vision to life and create a space where healing and growth can flourish.
