For the past 10 years, every November I have been raising awareness for men’s health, from prostate cancer and glioblastoma to supporting children born with cleft palates and hare lips. Many of you have stood beside me through every campaign, every story, every cause, and you’ve helped touch countless lives in ways you may have never fully realized!

This year, life hit close to home (back in Guatemala). The day I’ve always feared finally came, my dad, Julio, suffered a cerebral and a heart stroke. Two months ago, doctors told us he would never walk again, that he’d spend the rest of his life confined to a bed, completely dependent on others. But if you know my dad, after days in intensive care, 2 surgeries, and against all odds… he’s walking again (with help but walking!). The road ahead is still long and full of challenges. He’s lost vision in his right eye, he is learning some of the basics, and he can’t communicate at all. Every day is a battle, with speech therapy, physical therapy, nursing care, and rehabilitation. Sadly, none of this is covered by insurance in Guatemala. Living in a third-world country makes it even harder to access the care he deserves. Our family is learning firsthand what that truly means.

I never imagined I’d be on this side of the story, asking for help. But here I am, not just to raise funds for my dad’s recovery, but to shine a light on the reality faced by so many older adults in countries where healthcare and insurance systems simply fails them.

Because today it’s my family… tomorrow, it could be yours. And I still believe that together is always better.
