The Skinner's Adoption
Our adoption journey began long before we ever started the official process. Going into our marriage, we knew that between family history and Amy's PCOS | Polycystic Ovary Syndrome | diagnosis, chances of us conceiving a biological child were slim to none. However, we were not deterred and decided that we were fully committed to growing our family in whatever way God deemed fit. We spent a few years with and without specialists and medicines but as we progressed with infertility treatments, we each became uneasy with the direction we were headed. With potential mounds of debt and minimal chances of success, why on earth were we ignoring God and wasting time? Or at least, that's how we | finally | felt one Sunday after a lunch with a beautiful adoptive family.
Looking back, adoption was always our path and it's hard to think about our lives going in any other direction. We talked about it for years, I would get a special feeling every time I heard or read about an adoption story and Chris threw the idea around frequently. Even through the countless tests and negative results, I never lost faith and I rarely got discouraged because I knew that our child was out there, waiting for us. I remember laying in bed, after a particularly intense and soul gripping discussion with Chris, wondering what we were waiting for. The next day, after I submitted our pre-application, I texted Chris at work and his response was perfect; "Oh finally!" Yes, finally!
So, we are excited to announce that we have formally begun our adoption process with the Gladney Center for Adoption in Fort Worth, TX. We could not be more thrilled!
We ask you, our dear friends and family, to pray. We have been praying for our future children for years and we know that our child will need all the prayers he/she can get as they may be growing in their mother’s womb at this very moment! We desperately need prayer warriors! Pray for our child’s birth mother and her family as making the decision to place her child for adoption is not easy. Pray for her heart and her life, that she will experience the Lord through adoption. Pray for a healthy pregnancy. Pray for us as we give way to God’s will completely and put our trust and faith in His hands.
The idea of raising such a large sum is a daunting task but we ask that you prayerfully consider helping us in any way that you can. The initial cost of the domestic infant program is $27,500. This cost includes prenatal care, attorney fees, adoptive and birth parent counseling (plus many more agency services) and any other costs that the agency will need in providing transitional care for our child from birth until he or she is placed with us. We believe in a God that can do anything when He moves, and we know with every fiber of our being that He has led us here. Therefore, we’re trusting and we’re asking you to help us in bringing our child home.
Also, we would appreciate your willingness to share this with others who may want to participate.
We genuinely appreciate your support in this amazing journey of adoption. We pray that we will be a witness to the beauty | and trials | of adoption and that our journey will compel others to care for the orphans in a world where there is such great need. Again, we thank you with all of our hearts for your love, support, prayers and friendship.
