*Update as of 30/07/2025*
Thanks to the unbelievable generosity of many we have now reached our goal and beyond within 24 hours. Please see the updates below!
Theo is a very happy little boy who is non-verbal autistic. He is very high care and needs lots of support 24 hours a day along with his twin brother Oscar I am their sole carer.
Theo is also developmentally delayed, behind in all milestones and has sensory processing issues.
Theo has lots of struggles and has very limited understanding of the world around him, Theo cannot talk or communicate and this means he often puts himself unknowingly into dangerous situations. He needs constant supervision to stop him from hurting himself.
Due to Theo being awake for hours in the night despite being 4 and a half he is still in a cot bed for his own safety, however, this is no longer suitable as Theo can climb out, chews the wood on his cot and bangs his head on the sides when frustrated. This means Theo no longer has a safe space to sleep, and it is impacting the whole family.
Unfortunately getting support for funding for safety equipment for children that are autistic is incredibly difficult, therefore as a family we have decided to fundraise ourselves. Grandad has nominated himself to indoor row 300 k being 186 miles within 1 month (August) in order to raise the money. Puregym will officiate the distances.
The funds will be used primarily for a fixed safety bed, I have received a quote from a company called 'Oliver's Bed' which make bespoke safety beds that should last a life time, this type of bed is quoted at £5199, this is for a single bed. They are a British standard approved company that custom make safety beds, an example is pictured below from their website.
If we are lucky enough to raise enough funds to be able to purchase the above bed I have also been given a quote for a temporary use safety bed, this would mean Theo is still able to go on holidays or have sleep overs at his grandparents house. Until now on holidays Theo has been having to sleep in a travel cot, which Theo no longer fits in and can also climb out of, giving us the same difficulties whilst we are away that we have at home. Space saver beds have given me a quote for a 'Cloud cuddle' which would suit Theo's needs, this bed is approximately £2,000 with delivery. The bed is pictured below. Space saver beds
Thank you very much for reading, this equipment would make a massive difference in Theo’s life.
