Afghan Refugee Ministry - Phase 1 Completed!

Who We Are
The Mix is the young adult community group from Centreville Baptist Church VA and we are supporting an Afghan refugee family resettled into the area. All Afghan refugees have been thoroughly vetted by the government for their contributions or relationships to someone who assisted US efforts in the country (against the Taliban).

Personal Identifiable Information will not be included here for safety reasons. We initially were connected to a singular nuclear family unit of 3 but have expanded our ministry to serve 4+ nuclear families as well as lightly connected with the larger full relatives network. We have been collaborating with other churches in the area; we were connected specifically to this family through Eric Beckman from Greenwich Presbyterian Church.

Mission

Update: 2 years into this ministry, we have transitioned away from direct financial support. We now devote time and resources to focus on cultural support and relationship building. This GoFundMe is nominally closed. Thanks so much for all who have supported over the years!

Mat. 25:40 The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

We seek to be good-samaritan Christians to help support these people who have been brought into our lives. Our hope is to develop a real friendship beyond material support, one that will illuminate the Gospel and -God willing- lead them to Christ.
Afghan kinship is about the extended family, and the three families were able to get resettled in the local NOVA area due to help from relatives in the same community district. While our focus will be on the family units, we are also being connected socially with the extended family (brothers, in-laws) and their children.

GoFundMe Purpose and Details
This is the general purpose fund for supporting the afghan refugee family we have been connected with. Usage of these funds will be communicated/discussed through our internal mailing list for volunteers but will include: reimbursement of grocery expenses, obtaining a vehicle, cultural integration experiences, etc.

Funds will be transferred, as needed, to ARP project lead David Guo who will then transfer the funds to appropriate recipients. At this time, $33k has been used.
