Our Heart In Haiti
“For this child, I have prayed…” Samuel 1:27
“Not of my flesh, nor of my bone, but still miraculously my own. Never forget for a single minute, you didn’t grow under my heart – but in it.” Fleur Heylinger
Love is a gift that is given to us so we may give to others in love. Adoption has been on the hearts of the Maxeys for over 6 years. They have been led to adopt one of the 400,000 orphans from Haiti. The road has been rocky at times, the wilderness seemingly vast. Then both, after a long 5-year journey and all at once, they received the news…a child awaits them. A soon to be two year old little boy has been chosen for their family!
Patrick and Maranda have been married for 11 years and have one biological 6 year old son, Crockett. Patrick is a firefighter at Boone Fire Department and Maranda works in the Office of Disability Services at Appalachian State University. Both are volunteers at Cove Creek Volunteer Fire Department and attend Alliance Bible Fellowship. They have a deep love for family and have long desired to grow their family through adoption.
Adoption is a complex transition for all involved. Through prayer and fundraising support (if you feel led) please join in supporting them as they prepare to open their home with their already open hearts, to this child who awaits. Adoption is a clear representation of the Gospel and what God has done for us, and for the Maxeys.
Prayers: For this sweet boy’s care, health, for protection and the current orphanage workers. For the adoption agency workers, the social workers, court system processes and for quick processing of the extensive legal paperwork ahead. For Patrick, Maranda, Crockett as they endure a wait of 6-8 months, travels, more paperwork and as they prepare for the transition of bringing home their son. In thanksgiving for their opportunity to adopt, and for the journey He has led them through thus far.
Funding: The Maxeys will make an initial visit to Haiti July 4-19th to meet their son for the first time during a bonding visit. There will be at least 2 additional visits thereafter as they await visa approval to bring him home. The Maxeys have invested $34,000 and need to raise an additional $10,000. The costs ahead are associated with travel, government and program fees, associated documents, translations, his care and court fees. If through the generosity of financial giving and the goal is exceeded additional funds will be donated to the Chosen Ministry at Alliance Bible Fellowship as they have helped the Maxeys and continue to help meet the needs of adoption families.
There are many other ways to support the Maxeys through donations of child care, items for the orphanage and their little boy, meals once he arrives home, etc. These needs will be updated as they arise.
Many, many thanks for your support.
