Support The Common Woods, a Nature Based Community Center!

Donation protected
On May 3, 2025 We are hosting an all day festival, The Common Woods Benefit.

We will be offering this event for free to celebrate our growth, showcase the potential of The Common Woods and Gwinnett Wellness Community, to share different wellness practices with the local neighborhood, and to connect our communities.

The value of all of the individual offerings at The Common Woods Benefit is over $300 per person. Please consider what you can donate to help The Common Woods and the Gwinnett Wellness Community grow into thriving community resources that help our local communities be healthier, more connected, and more resilient.

Even if you can't come to the event, your donation will help us continue to host programming that helps people connect with nature, themselves, and with each other. You will be more than welcome to attend one of these future offerings for free. Look at www.thecommonwoods.org for our current offerings.

Please be assured that your funds will first be allocated to compensate the many hands and hearts it takes to make this magical day happen.

After our expenses for the event are covered, your donation will go to pay for the costs it takes to maintain The Common Woods including caring for the sheep and chickens, fencing upkeep, cleaning the Bell Tent, and clearing and chopping dead trees. Also, your funds will help us start a community composting program where neighbors will be able to bring their food scraps and take compost home.

In addition your funds will help us maintain the Common Woods website, promote the group, create newsletters, and host events. It will also fund the costs of creating and maintaining our outreach the Gwinnett Wellness Community. The GWC currently has a Facebook and Meetup group and soon will have a website, community calender, and additional infrastructure needed to facilitate practitioners being able to make their offerings available to the community.

Our vision is to have full time programming for the local community. One possibility is after school and home school programs to learn about plants, animals, composting, growing culinary mushrooms on logs, gardening, nature crafts, building shelters, tending to sheep and chickens, making fires, and in general learning how to relate with nature in a sustainable way.

Additional programming includes but is not limited to song circles, Earth Skills classes, women's and men's groups, sound healing, yoga, kirtan, sweat ceremonies, cacao ceremonies, events for neighbors such as birthday parties and other celebrations, rites of passage ceremonies such as when children start school, youth become adults, women become mothers, and other significant milestones. We can host groups tubing and kayaking down the river.

The community will be able to use this space to gather when it is important to talk about issues impacting the neighborhood. We'll host monthly potlucks to encourage building relationships with neighbors. Individuals will have opportunities to schedule meetups with other community members here. The space will be available for the needs of the neighborhood which we will discover as more people visit the space and let us know what they would like to do here. The goal is to facilitate neighbors having meaningful interactions that help us experience the humanity in each other which will help our community be more kind, resilient, resourced, connected, and healthy.

The Common Woods is zoned as Community Recreation because when the neighborhood was originally subdivided it had to have an area set aside for that. However the land can't be developed as a traditional community center, which means it was destined to be our nature based community space! And it also seems destiny that we ended up living here as stewarding land and creating community spaces is something that comes naturally to us, Thomas and Sharon Yun. Helping others through building strong communities helps us to also feel grounded, resourced, resilient, and connected.
