The Mask Movement is a grassroots COVID-19 mutual-aid network connecting people requesting masks with people making masks in their local community via the MaskMvmt portal.
Using the website (www.maskmvmt.org), someone in need of a hand-sewn mask can REQUEST the quantity of masks they need for them and their family.
Mask-Makers can easily use the portal to submit the quantity and style of mask they have made.
On the back-end, distribution volunteers working within the MaskMvmt portal pick up masks that have been SUPPLIED and deliver them to where they are being REQUESTED.
This campaign is based in the Twin Cities Metro of Minnesota, which is the only serviceable area at this time but we'll see where this goes. Requests are coming in from across the country already, even though the limited service area is listed on the site.
Everything via MaskMvmt.org is FREE. We have opened this portal because many of those requesting masks have inquired as to how they can contribute to the effort. There is a link on the website where you can make a contribution, or you support this effort via this fundraiser through GoFundMe! This platform requires a "fundraising goal" so set an initial goal of $2500, but this will be updated on a rolling basis as things grow!
All contributions will be used to best meet the massive volume of requests for masks that have been submitted via the portal. Our primary costs are purchasing supplies, increasing the output capacity of those sewing, offsetting costs of local delivery and/or shipping, and keeping this whole endeavor organized. We will continue to update this portal to make sure we are transparent about everything we're doing and what is happening.
We're all in this together. If you've already received masks, we would be THRILLED if you could make a contribution. If you don't need a mask, but want to help, a contribution goes a LONG way towards making this possible.
