The Zablan family from Lahaina
Donation protected
Aloha, my name is Bonnie Slater and I am helping the Zablan family from Lahaina. Erickson, Caitlyn and their one yr old son Kayson were home together because Kayson was recovering from surgery. At 4:50 pm Erickson noticed thick black smoke in the air. They evacuated quickly with 2 suitcases as black smoke and ash quickly engulfed their neighborhood. They found shelter in a friend's home in Kahana but had no phone service, electricity, water or gasoline for 3 days. Cars left on the streets have red X's painted onto them to show that the car had been checked and there were no bodies inside. (see photo) They have discovered that their home is intact however, it is in the heart of Lanahia town and it is deemed unsafe and they do not know when they will be able to return. Erickson has been working as a cook at the Westin Kaanapali Resort and Spa for a decade and has no idea when his job will resume. They are now staying with me their birth doula (me) in Wailuku. They remain positive and loving people and are grateful for the generosity of others as they navigate this devastating tragedy and so many unknowns. Thank you for all the support to help them with living expenses, finding housing, childcare, loss of employment and food costs. There is a long road ahead on the island of Maui. Your support helps!
