Help the homeless in honor of Bill Alfred
Donation protected
Bill Alfred was a playwright, professor, and beloved mentor. This memorial reflects his compassionate approach to life, which included helping the homeless.
Sometimes, if you were sitting with Bill in his front room, there would be a knock on his door. It would be a homeless person, someone experiencing difficulty. Bill would go talk for a bit, asking about their situation, and give them some funds to tide them over. How many people did he help in this way? At his memorial service, the homeless community showed up in gratitude, and they filled thirteen pews.
Wouldn't it be great to continue his spirit of generosity and kindness? We can provide miracles for people who need them, as Bill did.
As he knew, it feels good to help people. This can be a fun and helpful way to do that. All of the donations to this fund will go to help the unhoused and others in need and to prevent homelessness. We are partnering with community organizations, including Bill's church, who can assure that those in need are helped. The organizers have experience in helping the unhoused, and have managed a hostel for the homeless. The focus is on helping people to gain and maintain housing. This helps them to achieve long-term stability.
Bill's kindness was legendary. Among the homeless community, he was known simply as The Professor. Help us to continue his kindness. Any donation can be big in spirit and love. As Martin Luther King Jr. said, anyone can be great, because anyone can serve.
"But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.’” Luke 2:10
