Hello Cayucos locals and visitors,
Hello Cayucos locals and visitors,
We are raising funds to rebuild the mural 'The Delivery at the Cottage Hotel' located at 80 N. Ocean Blvd. downtown Cayucos. Today we all know the building as the 'The Way Station' but it was originally known as the 'Old Pedraita Building' built in 1876 while the town was growing around it.(and the beach came up to the front deck) Later the building sees life as the Cottage Hotel were travelers like the Hearst family would stay and dine while traveling the coast. The original mural was depicted from an old black and white photograph that can be viewed in the dining room of the Lunada restaurant. There are many reminders of the old days at The Way Station, the old hotel safe now planted amongst the flowers in the garden and the original redwood siding has been repurposed in multiple ways through out the property. The Eisemann Family who bought the property back in 1976 have beautifully refurbished the buildings, built and grew the gardens we all enjoy today. They have truly made it a labor of love every day ever since with help from their children, grandchildren and a lot of you locals!
Once everything was looking great, it was time to add the mural! The original mural was installed in the Spring of 1993 and was enjoyed for almost 30 years. Between the coastal fog and years of weather, the original material gave out to the elements. The plan for the new mural is to have it painted on concrete sheeting that is designed for all conditions. The Eisemann's are hoping to start the project mid- Summer 2022 after preparing the building for the muralist. Maryellen and Hank Eisemann are eager to rebuild and are asking Cayucos locals and visitors to support us in this refurbishing venture.
Attention local residence and business owners,
As I have been visiting businesses around town, I’ve noticed the huge need to repair and maintain other murals as well as ours. The mural on the old pharmacy building should be the next GoFundMe project. Depending on how much we raise and what our expenses are for The Way Station project, the remaining money would be donated to help refresh/update the Cayucos mural society website! We have new murals and businesses have moved or changed since then, it really needs some local updating! Also it would be great to have a print out tour guide for visitors, that will help with customer exposure for all businesses!
Last thing… I could use more suggestions, any artistic assistance with the website and really just any support towards this and future projects in town.
Thank you everyone!!!
Sincerely, Jackie King
