Urban Station works to promote art and greening initiatives for underserved youth in the urban core of Kansas City, KS by providing hands-on educational experiences, and real-world learning opportunities on community-based projects in the communities where they live.

We teach youth to use their creative minds to experience failure and success. Farming or growing gardens for food are low-risk playing fields for experimentation and a high potential for success, and learning to grow food from outdoor gardens and in hydroponic systems indoors can provide lifelong skillsets and knowledge on how to grow fresh produce in urban and food deserts.

Over the past 15 years, our team has been working in urban neighborhoods throughout Kansas City, KS, and using art and agriculture as tools to engage youth and challenge them to help solve concerns in their neighborhoods. At Urban Station, we believe in engaging youth in their own neighborhood to be purposeful. To be open to learning, and to explore the connection of the plants we grow, the chemicals we use, the bees that help pollinate our food; and the types of environment they need to survive and ecosystems needed to promote healthy communities.

We want neighborhood youth to have a safe and welcoming place they can go, a place where they can learn, and a place where they can succeed. We also believe they should be paid for their work.

We are setting a goal of $4,000 to pay youth an hourly wage and to purchase project materials such as hydroponic systems, seeds, plants and materials, raised beds, garden trellis, etc.

All funds will go to the youth and their projects. No admin funds.
