The Students Who Stole Christmas... Then Gave Back

We are five students from SUNY Oneonta who want to give back to the Oneonta community. In order to do this, we have planned to raise money with an end goal of donating holiday presents to the different local charities in town while keeping all Covid-19 safety precautions. We understand that due to the pandemic, many families and businesses were hit hard and began to struggle all around the globe, especially those in a college town. Many businesses in Oneonta depend largely on college students spending money and since campus has been closed since March, we cannot even begin to imagine what some families may be going through. We want to give back to them as much as possible and create as many smiles as we can, in no better way than to help for the holidays. Through the help of Barbara Ann Heegan, the CEO and President of the Otsego Chamber of Commerce, we plan to spread our message so that we can donate gifts to local charities who will provide them to families and children for the holidays as a helping hand.  Although us five individuals cannot change any financial struggles that may be occurring, we can change the experiences lost for local children and try to give back to them and their parents as much as possible. Our end goal is to help struggling charities and families in Oneonta while also improving the relationship between the towns people and college students.
