The Stones of Angkor: a documentary

Donation protected

Hello! I'm Joshua Humphreys—novelist, history tutor, & documentarian. And I'm hoping to film a documentary I've written entitled The Stones of Angkor...

10 years ago I visited the ruins of Angkor for the first time. Finding only scant & (very) badly organised information in the guidebooks, ever since then I've been studying the ruins—in academic works & up close—to understand why they came to be built and who came to build them. And the more I've studied them, the more I've been dying to share the fascinating history of Angkorian civilisation with a global audience!

So I've written THE STONES OF ANGKOR—a history of the architecture, the religion, & the people of the ancient Cambodian empire.

It's a history that involves god-kings, underwater cities, & several snake rituals—as well as some of the most exquisite art ever crafted by the hands of man. And after writing & filming histories of Venice & Ancient Greece—and after 3 years of research and writing (& rewriting)—The Stones of Angkor is now ready to film.

In order to tell this story properly I'm going to travel across most of Cambodia. After travelling 500km from the far south to the far north of the country I'll head 200km west to the ancient capital of Kambuja: the area that today is called Angkor. All while venturing out to its remotest temples, its mountain sanctuaries, & its jungle-buried cities to capture the fullest possible portrait of the country, its people, & its history.

All the funds for the project will be used to cover travel costs, temple entrances, and camera & motorbike maintenance (I'll be on my own Suzuki GN125)—as I spend 5 weeks filming in the furthest corners of Cambodia, to share with you the uniquely fascinating story of Cambodian civilisation.

AU$30 will put a (hopefully snakeless) roof over my head for a night; AU$50 will cover travel expenses & gasoline for a day; and AU$100 will cover a whole day of travel & filming (& a cold beer at day's end).

Once the filming & editing are done, and the documentary's ready to be watched, everyone who helped fund its production will then be invited to partake in a premiere viewing of...

THE STONES OF ANGKOR.
