- I
My name is Martin Sax, and I am the grandson of the late Teddy Baldock, World Bantamweight Champion in 1927, who remains Britain’s youngest ever World Boxing Champion.
In honour of his remarkable achievements, I commissioned and funded a life-size bronze statue, which was unveiled in Langdon Park, Poplar on 16th May 2014. The statue stands not only as a tribute to a British sporting icon, but also as a source of inspiration to the local community—showing how someone from humble beginnings can, through dedication and hard work, rise to the very top.
Tragically, on 1st February 2026, the statue was stolen by thieves.
While the statue was insured and the main cost of replacement is covered, there remains an excess of £10,000 that must be paid. I am therefore reaching out in the hope that, through public generosity, we can raise the funds needed to restore this important monument.
Together, we can ensure that the statue of Britain’s youngest World Boxing Champion once again takes pride of place in Poplar, inspiring future generations.
Thank you for your support.
