***UPDATE 5/9/2023***
Headed to pre op today for tumor removal and for a partial hip replacement. Thank goodness biopsy revealed it's benign. The growth of it has done a lot of damage though. He is scared and can use all the prayers. This healing journey won't be easy, but with the love and support of the community, family, and friends we will get through it together. Thank you for the outpouring of support.
8:53am, he is in the operating room now.
Update again 5/9/2023 at 1:16pm Matthew is done with surgery. Not quite out to recovery yet. They replaced the femoral neck because there wasn't much bone left. Sounds like the joint, but the socket remains. So he has a metal ball and femoral neck cemented in place. Dr says unfortunately the socket will probably need to be done in 8-10 years. Everything went smoothly though. The tumor itself has a chance of coming back. Giant cell tumor. So of course theres always that possibility. They did another biopsy to be extra sure. He will be able to get up in the next day or two, but will be high risk for dislocation. So no crossing legs or sitting full 90 degrees.
Lots of info. Storing it here for myself to remember as well.
Hi my name is Alisha, and I am fundraising for our home. I am a homemaker with 6 kids (ages 2, 2, 5, 9, 10, and 10) and my husband (age 39) has been our source of income. He worked long days and overtime most days. Unfortunately our home had shifted unexpectedly on April 19th. He had a sudden shift in his health and is now awaiting surgery to try to repair his femur where it attaches to the hip. He has a tumor growing wrapped around the bone. It has thinned his bone over a short time, and while adjusting in bed the femur popped and fractured. After an ambulance ride to the hospital and a transfer after that, he will be in the hospital for some time. He has traction in place on his leg for a bit if relief. Currently waiting for a surgery date and many tests/biopsies. The recovery will be long, and we really are hoping our community can help us even if it's only a little. I worry that we won't be able to provide all the things needed to run our home the same as we do now. We have some in diapers and pull ups still so even something as small as affording that care will be tight for us in the time to come. If anyone can help at all we would very much appreciate the support through this hard time. Thank you to anyone reading my rambling. Have a wonderful and blessed day. Thank you!
