UPDATE: Thank you for everyone who has donated. At this time we are asking that you no longer donate to the fund. As you may be aware, President Trump lifted the shutdown on Friday January 25th. For full transparency and accountability, I want you to know that we have already paid for 7 families bills out of donations. The remaining funds will be paid out until all donated funds are exhausted. As there are families who are still backed up with bills because they were government contractors, who receive NO BACK PAY. The damage of the shutdown caused a ripple effect and therefore we will still be offering the funds as relief. On another note, GO FUND ME has been extremely diligent in researching every shutdown campaign, ours included. We understand that they must ensure the integrity of their platform and we are patient with them in doing so. As soon as the lock is lifted, which we hope is within hours, we will continue paying. I am Egypt Sherrod. Many of you know me from television. But nevermind who I am or what I do. This go fund me account is set up by popular demand. After I posted a video on 1/11/19 to my instagram account (@egyptsherrod) pledging to help pay furloughed government workers bills, I was urged to start a gofundme. Thousands of you have responded by emailing me directly asking how you could help or be a part, perhaps sponsor a family. For that, I thank you. My call to action did not fall on deaf ears. This is your opportunity to donate what you can. Every week, we will pay a furloughed government workers bill(s) until the government reopens. It is my hope that we raise enough to be able to help someone every day.
If you are a furloughed government worker who needs some assistance, please email proof of your furlough and your bill (s) to the email address provided on my instagram page. (GoFundMe will not allow me to post my email address here so please go to @EgyptSherrod) I will do my best to help with the funds provided here and some from my own funds.
Listen...... it horrifies me that our lawmakers are playing Russian roulette with people’s real lives. Rent is due, refrigerators are bare, people are scared, yet still required to show up for work unpaid. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. An American workers check should never be a bargaining tool. And NO, throwing a garage sale is not an option! It feels like at this point ALL WE GOT IS US. And by “US” I mean compassionate, sensible folks who recognize that at the end of the day it doesn’t matter what political party you are in. What matters is that there may be families who go hungry this week, and who are put out on the street by the end of the month.
Do what you can.... that’s all I ask. And please send this link to everyone you know who has a heart and can rub two dollars together so that they’ll pass this on. This is not a challenge to embarrass anyone or put anyone on the spot. It is an effort to mobilize and take action. Let’s show our government how grown ups take charge!

For full disclosure, my husband and I are reviewing the emails from furloughed workers daily. Everyone's story is unique and equally heart wrenching. We will choose one recipient weekly, and their bill will be paid directly from this Go FUND ME account. So you will start seeing a decline in the balance periodically. That is because the funds are being used for the purpose created. If there is not enough money in the Go Fund Me, please do not be dismayed. I am personally subsidizing this outside of the Go Fund Me in order to make good on our commitment to cover one furloughed worker each week. Should the government reopen, any funds that remain in the account will all go to pay one more furloughed workers bills for that week. As we do expect that folks will still be in need on the first week of reopening.
