The Road to Driving in Moshi

Mama Restmary was one of the hardest wokring women we met in our time in Tanzania. She is one of the owners and managers of Kauli - a social enterprise and handmade artisanal purse manufacturer.

She takes 2 buses every day to get to work, amounting to 2.5 hours each way. Restmary was known to be one of the first women in the villages to buy her own house, completely on her own as a widow, which is still a rare achievement for women in Tanzania. She has 2 young boys - Livingod (8 years old) and JJ (2 years old). She was saving up from her salary at Kauli to buy a car so that she could cut her commute down and be more mobile for her family and take on more income opportunities (she is a hustler!)  She finally had enough to pay for a car and take her life to the next step by getting a car - making life easier for her work commute and family opportunities (see our WhatsApp conversation screenshots attached).

The way of life in Tanzania, as with many developing areas, can be quite corrupt. Mama Restmary trusted her Pastor with the managing of the funds between her and the car dealer, and some man ran off with the money and didn't come back. To a lot of working people in Tanzania, that amount ($2500 USD) is an annual salary.

Mama Restmary and her family and community would be beyond grateful for your support, in any amount you wish to offer (remember that $1USD is an average meal for them, so our $$$ goes a long way for them). We've attached screenshots of her expressing gratitude from previous support to demonstrate how deeply thankful she is for our help.
