My name is Alex. I'm a volunteer at the de-mining movement Catapa in Belgium. In a world of expanding consumption and limited resources it is important to be mindful about our material use and the implications for the people and places that provide them. The rural hilled landscapes of Falán in Central Colombia are one of these territories that is being explored by multi-national mining companies. The peasant communities that inhabit this beautiful region have been peacefully struggling against the incursions made by the Outcrop Silver company in their territory. These democratice citizens are faced with the might of local political corruption, multi-national funding schemes and national marginalisation. The story of David vs Goliath all over again.

These farmers provide the high-quality cacao and coffee beans that are cherished by consumers worldwide, and produce the food that feeds the burgeoning cities of Colombia. They fear a conflict over water with the mining companies, whose exploratory drilling sites have already disturbed the water tables and local springs. The destiny of their farmsteads and children hangs in the balance. Will the rural calm, indigenous biodiversity and honest labour of the peasantry make way for the ravaging sound of bulldozers, the racing of trucks and battalions of mining workers who are exploited in abysmal working conditions?

Aided by journalists and activists from Colombia, the documentary team has been visiting the Falán territory to reveal how its inhabitants perceive what has been happening since the arrival of the Santa Ana mining-project. The teaser also conveys the future that the peasants fear to lose if the mining continues.

The Crowdfunding

With this crowdfunding we are aiming to finance the pre-production (teaser), production and post-production costs of the documentary team. These include logistics (transport, food, ...), accomodation of the team, working hours, and technical equipments. The total budget necessary for the documentary from start to finish is estimated at €30.000, with the crowdfunding going in installments.

Estos agricultores proveen el cacao y el café de alta calidad que aprecian los consumidores de todo el mundo, y producen los alimentos necesarios por las florecientes ciudades de Colombia. Temen un conflicto por el agua con las empresas mineras, cuyos sitios de perforación exploratoria ya han alterado los acuíferos y los manantiales locales. El destino de sus granjas y sus hijos pende de un hilo. ¿La tranquilidad rural, la biodiversidad autóctona y el trabajo honesto del campesinado darán paso al estruendo de las excavadoras, el rugido de los camiones y los batallones de mineros explotados en condiciones laborales deplorables?

¿Quieres aporarnos así que las voces de Falán puedan expresar su derecho a decir no? Puedes donar ahora para ayudarnos a producir un documental que narra la historia de los campesinos de Falán. Con la ayuda de periodistas y activistas colombianos, el equipo documentalista ha visitado el territorio de Falán para mostrar cómo sus habitantes perciben lo sucedido desde la llegada del proyecto minero de Santa Ana. El teaser también muestra el futuro que los campesinos temen perder si la minería continúa.

El Crowdfunding

Con esta campaña buscamos financiar los costos de preproducción (teaser), producción y posproducción del equipo del documental. Esto incluye logística (transporte, alimentación, etc.), alojamiento del equipo, horas de trabajo y equipamiento técnico. El presupuesto total necesario para el documental, de principio a fin, se estima en €30.000, y la financiación se realizará en plazos.
