The Ride follows Gizzy, a grad student visiting her grandparents while carrying the weight of a deeply personal decision. Nervous, scared, and afraid of being judged, she turns to her grandmother for support.
At the center of the film is the importance of pro choice. Gizzy is not asking her family to fully understand every part of her decision. She is asking to be seen, trusted, and supported during one of the most vulnerable moments of her life.
When her grandmother cannot bring herself to go with her, Gizzy’s grandfather Jim steps forward. His decision to support her sparks an intergenerational conversation rooted in empathy, open mindedness, and the understanding that being pro choice means respecting someone’s right to make a deeply personal decision about their own life, body, and future.
At its heart, The Ride is about why pro choice matters. It is about autonomy, trust, compassion, and the right to make a personal decision without being abandoned by the people you love.
The Ride explores that complicated space with honesty and compassion. This film is not about turning its characters into villains. It is about the painful gap between loving someone and knowing how to support them.
We want to tell this story in a grounded, human way. A way that invites conversation instead of shutting it down.
This is an independent short film made with a small local cast and crew. Funding will directly support the essentials needed to make the film with care, including cast and crew pay, sound, lighting, transportation, meals, music, sound editing, and post production.
Every contribution helps us create a safe and respectful set while giving this story the attention it deserves. Our goal is to make a quiet, honest film about compassion, support, and the people who choose to sit beside us when we need it most.
